So you need to know how to improve your website rankings ?!
Improving your SEO is so much easier than you think or are led to beleive by those who wish to make you pay for their "enhancment" or seo services.
Hopefully this crappy blog is top 5 on page 1 of Go-ogle for how to improve website rankings (my chosen keyword) or at least on page one which means just a 5 minute tweaking of some vey clever software (more on that in a bit). This is the 21st Century yes? So you need to operate your internet business as such. This means utilising whatever technology is currently doing the biz ( think about it - why are you reading this page? - you want to beat your competitiors....what do you think they are using to rank so highy for YOUR keywords?)
Think of the Google search engine result pages (serps) as a popularity conest like the X factor! The more votes your site receives from the judges (high ranking websites) the more relevant and popular the TV Network (Google) sees your site. So your site is given prime time viewing (page 1 on Google).
If you are marketing ANYTHING on the net and watching your search engine ranking with baited breath, then you will probably have done some swatting up to ensure the best results. If this is true then you will have seen so much
confusing and contradicting info regarding SEO, serps and Google confusion etc.
Lets start from the basics and look at the requirements to top the Google "charts".
Lets presume your product is sought after ie you have researched it. Then of course there is your KEYWORD research, low competition and high search volume (although not always the case for sub or micro niches and obviously not for reference sites etc).
*Tip: There are various different "niche finding" products both free and paid, the most simple answer is to use data from the search engine you are attempting to dominate. This will tell you which keywords it thinks is most relevant to your search. If you type a few keywords into the search box you will be presented with variations before you even hit "search".
Then, research these keywords and rinse and repeat until refined. Of course you can fine tune these using your chosen keyword tool. (see links below this blog).
Website, blog or article - on page optimisation.
Regardless of your chosen method of promotion, you must understand how your site is recognised and indexed or "spidered" by the search engines. It will look first at your header or title text Guess what should go here?......yes -your keywords (3-5 long tailed for best results)
Then,depending on the kind of webpage it is, it will Analise your keywords, links to other pages* , then basically work its way down your page to determine what kind of site it is, what your keywords are, also, it will look for synonyms to your keywords. This is a newish algorithm from Google to determine if you have any similar words to your keyword i.e if your keywords were " dog training tips" (for a change!), then the following words would become relevant - canine -hound,pooch and school - lessons,obedience,classes,advice, and so on. This is know as LSI or latent semantic indexing. This will come into effect when someone searches for your chosen keywords. If your site is correctly set up for LSI then it will be seen as relevant to any combination of the keywords and or synonyms.
*Use similar keyword variations as links to your other pages on your "dog training site" ie instead of page 2, use "more dog training tips" and for photos use something like "dog training photos" etc. This is what is known as on page optimisation.
Oh to be popular - Off page optimistaion.
Backlinks.
These are pretty much agreed to be the lifeblood of your promotion and website ranking efforts. The proper use of quality backlinks will ensure respect from Google and thus gain promotion in the search engine results pages -or serps.
Basically Google treats the ranking game as a popularity contest. If another already respected site by Google points to your site and says" this guy is content relevant and knows what He's talking about" then Google will say "ok, I respect your opinion so will give his site a boost in the rankings". This is why the world and his brother are writing articles left, right and centre and furiously posting them to "respected" article sites to gain valuable backlinks to their sites. Also this is done because its a free marketing method or "bum" marketing as it is known.
The more "respect" the article site has (higher page ranked), then the more valuable the vote of confidence is and therefore the higher the boost. This is then repeated with more articles with variations of title (keyword string) all linking to your site.
This can also work in reverse if you link to a "dodgy" website - your site will lose favour with Google- or to be precise the link will probably be seen as worthless to Google.
Articles...plain and simply the best
The old saying of "go with what you know" is true with article marketing. It is the proven and safest way of building backlinks to your site or whatever in conjunction with respected article websites such as Ezine articles. This is because of the high screening level ezine has in place. Its really difficult to post junk on there so Google likes that fact and so therefore any articles published on Ezine are automatically given a good ranking. (dont forget that your ranking of that article will fade over a few weeks just by the nature of the way Google works). This can be avoided however by submitting fresh content all over the web linking to your article as you might for your website itself.
The purpose of article writing is to produce original content and provide the reader with information, as well as a strong backlink to your website.".....remember to write your article for a human and not for Google. Just use your keyword inthe title and 2-3 times in the article plus LSI words and Google will give you the boost you seek.
Follow thee basic steps with your article and remember to be PATIENT!! It may take weeks but it WILL appear on the first 5 pages and slowly edge to the top. ( the more links you add the higher you rank - simple)
Take these fish below - click your mouse on them and see them fight for the scraps........that is what most affiliate marketers do - they fight for the odd sale here and there using ppc ads that in turn costs them more than they make.............wierd huh?
They don't understand leverage obviously. That money they waste on Google ads could be earning them far more!!
Articles - copy and pay (ste)
HOWEVER, do not be tempted to post the same article to lots of different article sites as Google WILL recognise the content as duplicate and rank only the oldest of the copies that get posted. This goes a small way to address the long running argument about duplicate content and penalties:
If Google did indeed "penalise" you or your site for publishing duplicate content over and over then this could be used to your advantage - you could post thousands of articles of junk quality with your "COMPETITORS" website as the link. Thus making your competitors "pay" for the skull-duggeree.
So, as a result, Google just ignores the duplicate content. So even though it may be quicker (only slightly) to copy and paste chunks of other peoples work (if you can live with yourself), as opposed to writing your own, there is little point. The next point is a HUGE one.
